Brass over Tea Kettle made their Musiikki debut last Saturday night and promptly turned the backyard into a storybook scene. Picture this: a big, proud magnolia tree standing guard, twinkle lights winking overhead, and a patio so jam-packed with people you’d think the tree itself had invited them. Inside, thirsty Kettleheads sipped on Musiikki’s dreamy cocktails, waiting for their chance to squeeze into the garden where brass was blooming louder than the flowers.
The night was warm, the crowd was rowdy, and requests were flying through the air like confetti. Some the band caught, some they batted away with a mischievous grin. And then came “Despacito,” performed at a gloriously slow crawl—leaving plenty of room for solos to spiral, crash, and twirl like musical fireworks. By the time the last note floated off into the night sky, it felt less like a concert and more like a secret musical hideout, that the magnolia tree had been dreaming of all along.
